A well-designed and constructed foundation guarantees the long-term operation of any building and structure. Today, there are several popular types of bases, but the most popular of all is certainly tape. To create it, no special equipment is required, and the installation technology is as simple as two fingers – everyone is able to build a tape foundation with their own hands.

The interface of the tape foundation calculation calculator should be intuitive for most users, as it is quite simple.
The main part of the program is divided into several major elements:
- An introductory block with initial data and a simplified diagram.
- A detailed drawing of the ribbon foundation, which is drawn based on the first item.
- Interactive 3D model that allows you to view all the elements of the structure in three-dimensional space.
- Calculation results (materials, values, acceptable values...).

Based on the plan of your house, you begin to visualize the device of a monolithic ribbon foundation. Use the configurator to set the required number of tapes and their location.
The service limits the maximum possible number of axes horizontally and vertically. You can specify no more than 2 additional lines in each direction, i.e. no more than 8 axes in total.
To add parallel horizontal (letter) axes, select the required number (1 or 2) in the first item AD0. The new straight lines will be located between the AD axes and will be called B and C.
The vertical axes (digital) are not added to the entire length of the tape foundation, but specifically to each section of AB, BC, or CD.
To offset a section, fill in the "Side offset" field. For more information, see below, where a practical example is discussed.
In order to get a square monolithic ribbon foundation for a house, divided into 9 equal blocks, you need:
- add two axes in AD0;
- add two axes in paragraph AB0;
- add two axes in BC0;
- add two axes in CD0.
You have a non-standard foundation, which is divided into 6 unequal sections. Block AB is split into three parts, block BC is split into two, and CD is not split.
- add two axes in AD0;
- add two axes in paragraph AB0;
- add one axis in BC0;
- in point CD0, leave zero.
Thus, "playing" with the values, you can make a schematic drawing of the foundation with any types of sections. Also, for your convenience, it is possible to rotate the drawing (by 90, 180 or 270 degrees), select its color, turn on the grid and show whether the guide lines.
Characteristics of the foundation
Now we need to specify the dimensions of the sides, the width of the tape, the height and depth of the laying of the tape foundation, as well as the brand of concrete used.
Filling in the fields with the dimensions of the sides should not cause difficulties – everything is clearly illustrated in the drawing of the tape foundation.
The height of the tape is calculated individually, depending on your preferences, the height of the plinth, or for other reasons. The standard size is 40-50 cm.

A little theory. The construction of a tape foundation on highly porous soils at a high water table is possible only if the tape is deepened by 30 or more centimeters below the freezing level, i.e. you will get a deep foundation. In this case, the forces of frost heaving have an impact not vertically, but tangentially, thereby significantly reducing the destructive effect. For all other situations, when the soil is not subject to strong heaving, it makes sense to use a shallow (not buried) tape foundation, as the most profitable and easy to install.
The width of the belt is selected based on the type of underlying soil on which the construction is planned and the mass of the overlying structure. The point is to maintain a balance between the pressure of the structure on the ground and the maximum allowable pressure that the ground can withstand. For most cases in private construction, the rule is that the width of the tape should be greater than the thickness of the wall by 10 cm. However, if the calculator gives a warning that these values are not valid for you, use the recommended value that it will offer you.
For the construction of the base, it is recommended to use only high-strength concrete solutions of the M300 brand and above. The use of a mixture of lower strength, can lead to deformations and destruction of the structure – saving money on cheaper materials in this case is inappropriate. Fill in the appropriate fields in the calculator to perform a reliable concrete calculation.
To perform an approximate calculation of the load on the tape foundation based on the mass of the house box, you can use a special calculator of building blocks. To get a more accurate value, add 10-15% to account for the weight of the roof, snow and wind load. On the page for calculating the ground resistance of the base, find out the maximum permissible load on the underlying surface.
Filling the foundation ensures the reliability and durability of the entire structure of the house as a whole. In most cases, a pillow made of sand, gravel or PGS is used. Our default calculator assumes that you will apply sand. Depending on the type of soil, the thickness of the cushion should be from 30 to 60 cm.
Creating a reliable foundation is impossible without making a high-quality reinforcement frame, so it is important to perform the correct reinforcement calculation for the tape foundation. Select the expected diameter of the rods, the number of horizontal rows, bars, and the pitch between the vertical rows. If you plan to deepen the rebar into the ground, specify this in the appropriate field.
If you do not know or are not sure how to properly knit reinforcement for a tape foundation, you should refer to certain standards that are set out inSNiP 52-01-2003 (SP 63.13330.2010)in particular, special attention should be paid to the paragraph " Design requirements»:
- paragraph 7.3.4. - the minimum distance between the bars of the valve should be taken depending on the diameter of the valve, but not less than 25 mm.;
- paragraph 7.3.6-the distance between the rods of the longitudinal reinforcement should be taken not more than twice the height of the cross-section of the element and not more than 400 mm, and the greater the load on the base, the smaller it will be, but not less than 100 mm;
- paragraph 7.3.7-the transverse reinforcement should be installed in increments of not more than half the working height of the element section and not more than 300 mm.
By following these rules, you can be sure that you are performing the correct installation of rebar in the tape foundation. These rules apply to private construction, but for more complex structures, there are certain amendments and notes that need to be read in more detail.

Monolithic slab on a strip foundation
A tape foundation with a monolithic floor slab is an excellent solution if you want to protect your home from pests (rodents, insects), as well as fear of premature destruction of the wooden floor, as a result of high humidity, or deformation of the floor, when pouring concrete into separate cells between the tapes. The concrete floor is perfect for both light houses made of foam blocks and aerated concrete, and for heavy houses made of brick and stone.
Specify in the program the desired thickness of the plate, the side of the reinforcement mesh (the side of the square cell), the diameter of the reinforcement and the grade of concrete (M200 or more).

The pressure of the foundation on the ground base should not exceed the maximum permissible.
If the width of the foundation tape was selected incorrectly, the result will be highlighted in red. This means that the structure of the building is too massive, and the tape will cut through the ground until it meets an obstacle. If you have specified everything correctly, you will see a green light.
The recommended width of the foundation is the most optimal value, from the point of view of artificial intelligence, under given conditions of the type of soil and possible loads on it.
According to SP 52-101-2003, the percentage ratio of the cross-sectional area of the longitudinal reinforcement to the cross-section of the foundation plate (reinforcement coefficient) for concrete structures should be at least 0.025%. If your value is less than the standard value, you should increase the number of vertical and horizontal rows.

Background theoretical information helps to understand some controversial points, but everything becomes much more obvious when you analyze the real practical situation.
We chose a random scheme of a one-story house from the Internet and based on it, we calculated the tape foundation on our calculator. All the initial conditions are shown in the image. The lengths of the sides are indicated in millimeters, but we will record them in centimeters for convenience.
Let's build a simplified diagram using the "Orientation" block.
Let's transfer all the dimensions from the drawing to the calculator and assume that the width of the tape will be 40 cm.
In order to get the indent on the left for the "Kitchen-Living room", you need to move the CD side to the right. Fill in the size of the side and look at the length of the terrace, it is 300 cm (3000 mm), so you need to enter 300 cm in the "CD side offset" field.
Click the button "Calculate", in order to see if we got it right.
As we can see, the lower room is a little crooked, and the dimensions are not at all what we specified in the condition.
First, this is due to the fact that in the diagram we repeat, the length of the side of the room together with the wall is equal to the length of the side without the wall, which in itself is fundamentally wrong.
Second, note that in the tape foundation calculator, the counting on the sides does not start from the edges of the tape, but from the internal axes of symmetry.
In order to correct the position and align the "Kitchen-living room", increase its size by 20 cm, and reduce the offset by the same 20 cm.
As a result, the foundation gets the shape we need.
The calculator supports entering NEGATIVE values in the "Side offset" field. Axis 1 is taken as zero. This is necessary so that you can create a ribbon foundation of any shape.

First of all, the base can not withstand the load of the overlying structure of the building and soon the tape is deformed. In the second case, if the width of the belt is insufficient, the structure will begin to go deeper into the ground until one of its parts rests against denser rocks and, then, due to the uneven distribution of pressure, the foundation will simply break.
