Why use our calculator?
When doing plumbing work, and especially when creating a safe piping system, you will need to calculate the hydraulic parameters of the fluid. One of the most important parameters is velocity at which water flows in the pipe. This value must not exceed established standards, otherwise the pipe / fittings will be subject to destructive wear and tear.
This calculator allows you to estimate water velocity in the pipeline based on the known inner diameter of the pipe and the average water flow rate. Basic formula: V = Q / (d2 / 4), where Q – flow rate, d – inner diameter of pipe. Note that you have to enter the INNER diameter of the pipe, not the OUTSIDE.
How do I estimate water velocity?
- Enter the Volume Flow Rate.
- Enter the inner diameter of the pipe.
- Click the "Calculate" button.
